Project Brief

The construction of a new 2FE Primary School, Special School and Nursery in Greenwich, providing new facilities for the relocated Kidbrooke Park Primary School.

The new site comprises a 2-storey school building and extensive landscape works for outside learning and play, including sports facilities served by a stand-alone changing block that can be used by the community.

The project has been designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent, maximising passive techniques to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. This includes a highly-insulated building envelope, high thermal mass for night cooling, ventilation stacks with heat recovery, 90sqm of Solar Panels and electric charging points in the car park.

Galliford Try was appointed to develop RIBA Stage 4 design, working with the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG) to review buildability and present options for increased value for money, and deliver the scheme on what is a constrained site, bordered by housing and a secondary school.

Through a collaborative approach with RBG and the PM and PQS, Galliford Try was able to propose an Early Works contract that will enable Practical Completion 8-weeks ahead of the client’s original programme.

“Making sure children and young people in our borough have the best education and recreation facilities available to them is key and we’re all delighted to see this improved school building and grounds becoming a reality for residents in Kidbrooke.”
