Supporting Local Communities – Mace (Partnering Contractor)
The team at Barlby Primary School have been truly living the Mace values and working closely with their partners to support the local school, community and families during the challenging time we have faced over the last couple of years.
Since starting the project in late summer 2019, the project team, school children and teachers have seen a whirlwind of change. Channelling the positive Mace spirit, throughout the project the team worked closely with the school to go above and beyond from building fences for wild gardens, hosting school assemblies, to running road safety days complete with HGV for the kids to sit in.
But in the face of lockdown, their regular community support had to change. The lockdowns in the UK had a big impact on families – many having to home-school and some parents unable to attend work. So, our team and contractors regularly donated food and cleaning products to local foodbanks and volunteering in community kitchens. To ensure they maintained the social distancing rules, they also partnered with the local foodbank to create an Amazon wish list for contact-free donations.
However, in the last lockdown, the school faced another tough challenge. Many families did not have the technology in place to support their children’s home-schooling. With the support of their contractors and suppliers, Mace were able to donate 35 laptops to the school to ensure children weren’t missing out on learning and virtual classes. The contributing sub-contractors included: E Poole Ltd, Phoenix ME Ltd, Arc Group, Arc Construction Ltd, EPS Site Solutions Ltd, Lesterose Builders Ltd, Swift Crafted Ltd, Delta Fabrications, Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium Ltd and Realtime Civil Engineering Ltd.
Forming part of the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), the project has seen Mace create a new school building and special educational needs building and playground.
The school opened at the start of the academic year September 2021, and the existing school was demolished and the playground was completed in March 2022.
